She is the daughter of Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh and the granddaughter of the famous cricketer Late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and veteran Hindi film actress Sharmila Tagore. She began her primary education at Besant Montessori School, Mumbai, and finished her higher secondary education at the same institution. After winding up her school education, she flew to New York to pursue her undergraduate in Political Science and History at Columbia University. After finishing her higher studies in New York successfully, she flew down to India in 2016.

Sara was inclined to act ever since she was a child, but her parents emphasized studies before anything. In 2004, when Sara was about nine years old, her parents Saif and Amrita divorced each other. In 2012, Saif got married to Bollywood queen Kareena Kapoor. Sara is on good terms with her stepmother Kareena Kapoor and shares a friendly bond with her.

Before knocking on the Hindi film industry door, she was featured on the cover of a magazine named “Hello,” alongside her mother, Amrita Singh, in the year 2012. She received a plethora of acting and modelling offers after her appearance on the magazine cover. The movie was set against the devastating 2013 Uttarakhand floods, and the audience loved the plot. But fate had other plans for Sara, as director Abhishek Kapoor entered into a brawl with the producers KriArj entertainment, due to which the project was unable to reach completion. After some court hearings, KriArj entertainment dropped the project and was replaced by RSVP movies, led by Ronnie Screwvala. This uncertainty period was quite troublesome for Sara Ali Khan, as she was simultaneously shooting for her second project, Simmba, opposite Ranveer Singh.

Even after Kedarnath was released, it was swamped with controversies as some priests believed that it promotes Love Jihad, followed by various legal cases aiming to condemn the movie. Anyhow, after the court’s approval, the movie was released on 7th December 2018, and the audience adored Sara’s acting skills along with her dialogue delivery and eloquence. Sara Ali Khan and Sushant Singh Rajput gained a lot of praise and popularity with this film’s release.

The audience was surprised by Sara yet again when Simmba was released on 28th December 2018, just 20 days after Kedarnath’s release. Sara grabbed her eyebrows when the video song “Aankh Marey” from the movie went viral, and the actress achieved a vast fan base across the country. Apart from Sara Ali Khan, Ranveer’s role as a police officer and his justice delivered to the role were praised by the film’s viewers.

Her latest movie hit the theatres in 2020 opposite Kartik Aryan, and its name was Love Aaj Kal 2. The movie was a complete disaster and performed poorly at the box office. It was hardly able to receive ratings from critics and even the usual audience. Despite good casting and presentation, the movie failed to perform its best due to a weak plot and novelty of ideas.
