Early life and Career:

Akshara was born on 12th October 1991 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, to Kamal Hassan and Sarika Thakur, who are already well-established film actors. She began her school education at Abacus Montessori school, Montessori, Chennai. She kept switching schools and went to Lady Andal school in Chennai, Beacon High school in Mumbai, and finally completed her high school intermediate from Indus International School, Bangalore.

Years after her parents’ marriage, her parents Kamal Hassan and Sarika Thakur, parted ways. Akshara currently resides in Mumbai with her mother, Sarika Thakur. She practices Buddhism and describes it as the way an individual should lead their life. On the working front, Akshara began her Career as an assistant director to Rahul Dholakiya on his then-upcoming project “Society” (2010). Akshara’s mother, Sarika starred in the female lead role. Akshara has also assisted many other renowned directors such as Ram Moorthy, Uzer Khan, E. Niwas and Ruchi Narain in Mumbai for their respective AD films. While working as an assistant director, she turned down numerous acting offers that came her way, including the Mani Ratnam-directed Kollywood film Kadal. She also actively participated in directing the film “Sabaash Naidu”, starring her father Kamal Hassan and elder sister Shruti Hassan in lead roles. Unfortunately, the film Sabaash Naidu stands unreleased till date.

Hassan finally made her film debut alongside the Kollywood superstar Dhanush and Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan in the Hindi film Shamitabh. Further, in 2017, she starred in Vivegam, a Tamil action thriller, alongside another veteran Kollywood actor Ajith Kumar. She was seen playing a brief role in the movie. Her latest work is the film Kadaram Kondan, a Tamil language action film alongside the famous Tamil action star Chiyaan Vikram. The film hit the screens on 19th April 2019.
