Early life and Career:
Dia Mirza was born on 9th December 1981 in Hyderabad, Telangana, to a German father and an Indian mother. Her father, Frank Handrich, was a German Catholic who held many professions such as an artist, architect, and interior designer. Her mother, Deepa, is an Indian woman of Bengali descent, an interior designer. Initially, Dia possessed her father’s surname Handrich, but her parents divorced when she was four years old. Her mother then tied the knot with Ahmed Mirza, a Hyderabadi Muslim. Later, Dia adopted the surname Mirza and carried the same name henceforth.
Dia completed her primary education at Vidyaranya high school in Hyderabad, and later she switched to Nasr high school to gain higher secondary education. She decided to pursue her college studies in the arts stream and enrolled herself in Ambedkar Open University to pursue her undergraduate degree. She also started earning a side buck while pursuing her college studies by working as a Marketing executive for a media firm. Eventually, she was drawn into the world of modelling and glamour and started receiving modelling assignments for TV commercials. Her initial modelling projects happened to be for Lipton, Emami, Wall’s ice cream, and other reputed brands. After being crowned, she spotlighted the winner of the Miss Asia Pacific competition in the year 2000.
In 2000, she stepped into the Hindi film industry with the movie “Rehna hai Tere Dil Mein,” sharing the screen with R. Madhavan. Although it was not a commercial success at the box office, it still ranks as a respectable place when romantic movies are curated. The viewers are also loved by the viewers due to its riveting storyline and have a significant fan following today. Apart from acting, she also launched herself as a film producer, in partnership with her love interest Sahil Sangha (Businessman and film producer). Their film banner came to be known as “Born Free Entertainment,” under which they produced the movie “Love Breakups Zindagi” (2011). Mirza tied the knot with Sahil Sangha in 2014. Before getting hitched to Sangha, her name had been linked to other Bollywood celebrities as well, some of which include Salman Khan, Vashu Bhagnani (Film producer), Kunal Kapoor (actor), and Bunty Sachdeva (musician). However, Dia and Saahil separated in the year 2019.
Dia has made stunning appearances in Web series, too, namely Kaafir and Mind the Malhotras. Her character in the web series Kaafir was much appreciated and admired. She has also launched her own production house by the name of “One India Stories” post her divorce from Sangha.
