Early life and Career:
Katrina Kaif was born on 16 July 1983 as Katrina Turquotte in Hong Kong, of mixed descent (Indian and British). Her father, Mohammed Kaif, is an Indian hailing from Kashmir, who is a businessman. At the same time, mother Suzanne Turquotte is a resident of Britain, a lawyer, and a charity worker by profession. Her actual hometown is London, United Kingdom, but the actress has seen her childhood growing up in different places due to her parents’ transferable jobs. Katrina’s parents filed for and got a divorce when Katrina was young. So, she and her siblings were brought up by a single mother.
Due to frequent transfers, Katrina did not attend her primary education at a school. Instead, she received home-schooling from her mother and other tutors as well. During her stay in Hawaii, Katrina won the first modelling competition of her life, after which she felt disposed toward modelling and the glamour world. Later, Katrina decided to opt for full-time modelling and took it up as a profession, performing fashion shows for freelance agencies. During one such fashion show, Katrina caught sight of Kaizad Gustad, a filmmaker. He decided to launch her in his upcoming movie project Boom. Kaif shared the silver screen with Amitabh Bachchan, Gulshan Grover, Jackie Shroff etc. This movie was her ticket to Bollywood and India, where she underwent a change in surname from Turquotte to Kaif (her father’s surname), as she thought it was easy to pronounce. Around the same time, Kaif was swamped with modelling offers, where she endorsed reputed brands such as Coca-Cola, Fevicol, Samsung, and LG.
Katrina gained fame and recognition in the glamour world, but her debut movie Boom failed terribly at the box office. The viewers of the movie did not entertain her Hindi dialogue deliveries in a thick British accent. This movie also brought her immense criticism regarding the same. Directors and producers were unsure about offering her a place in their films due to her poor Hindi accent and pronunciation. However, Katrina worked hard on the language part, tried and learned to pronounce Hindi words, and bore fruits. She gradually started bagging roles and gaining praise with her subsequent Bollywood appearances in the films “Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya” (2005) and Namaste London (2007). She also stepped into the South Indian film industries with the Telugu film Malliswari and the Malayalam film Balram Vs Tharadas, garnering praiseful adnouns such as marvellous and charming.
Kaif’s upcoming projects helped her prove herself as a successful actress in hilarious roles too. Some of her successful, high-grossing romantic comedies include Welcome (2007), Partner (2007), Ajab Prem ki Ghazab Kahani (2009), Mere brother ki Dulhan (2011), etc. Also, her appearance in serious action-packed roles on the big screen brought her recognition and stardom. Her serious character was much admired in the movies Race (2008), Apne (2009), Raajneeti (2010), Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011), Ek Tha Tiger (2011), Dhoom 3 (2013), and Bang Bang (2014). Three of the latter are known to be her best action-packed performances to date.
Katrina Kaif was last seen in the biggest blockbuster film of 2019, Bharat, alongside Salman Khan. The film is a Hindi remake of the South Korean film “An ode to my father.” As usual, Katrina hasn’t failed to impress her fans and the audience this time too. She is all set to appear in Rohit Shetty’s upcoming project “Sooryavanshi” (2020), co-starring with Akshay Kumar, and the comedy horror film “Phone Bhoot.”
