Early life and Career:
Monica’s first-ever role in the film industry was a supporting role, where she was seen in the Hindi film Kaalia(1997), essaying the role of the protagonist’s sister. Two years later, she landed a lead role in the Tamil film Minsara Kanna, a romantic thriller, sharing the screen with Vijay, which marked her debut role. Castelino received mixed reviews for her work and the film finished as an average grosser at the box office. After the release of the film, she changed her on-screen name to Anjani citing numerological reasons, and later reverted to Monica.
Failing to take place in other upcoming films in the Hindi film industry, Monica signed a low-budget Hindi film Kama Sundari. This movie was followed by another film named Meri Pratigya where she was again seen in a supporting role, with Mithun Chakraborty in the lead role. Later she landed a cameo role in the Hindi film Shikaar (2004), where she was seen performing a club dance song in the film. In the year 2004, she signed the film Men Not allowed opposite Payal Rohatgi, where both of them portray the role of Lesbian women, in love with each other. In the late 2000s, she took up some other glamorous roles.
At the beginning of the 2010s, Monica started featuring in television shows. Some of her noteworthy roles are known to be in the serials Tu mere agal bagal hai (2014), Dr Madhumati on duty (2016), and Gupp Chupp (2016) where she was offered to play the lead roles. She has frequently worked for shows produced by Optimystix Entertainment. In 2017, she joined the comedy show “The Kapil Sharma Show”, becoming a regular cast member of the show.
In 2010, Monica married the assistant director Satyaprakash Singh but parted ways with him in 2011. Allegedly, Singh had tried to sell her Versova flat for ₹50 lakh in a bid to start a film production company in October 2011. When she did not comply with this demand of her then-husband, he hacked her Facebook account and thereafter started uploading vulgar pictures and videos of her on the very account. He even threatened her to reveal their secret marriage in public. She lodged a complaint against Singh on charges of adultery and harassment.
