Early life and Career
Sana Khan was born on 21st August 1987 in a Mumbai based Muslim family. Her father belongs to Kerala, and her mother hails from Mumbai itself. Sana’s primary school education was attained in Mumbai. After passing the 12th standard, she planned to discontinue her studies as she had bagged a handful of modelling offers.
So, her career began with modelling, and eventually, she made her way to TV commercials. Her personality was slightly highlighted when she featured in ad films opposite prominent Bollywood icons like Shahrukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar, etc. Her gateway to Bollywood was a B-grade, low budget Hindi film called “Yahi hai High Society”(2005). She was unable to garner attention and praise from the audience. She knew that she would gain recognition only after being featured in a high-budget film directed under a renowned film banner. After her first film in 2005, she was offered a cameo role in the Tamil film “E,” which went smoothly. In the succeeding year 2007, she was offered two Bollywood movies, namely “Bombay To Goa” and “Dhan Dhana Dhan Goal,” which fetched her recognition to a certain level. But she was not able to surpass the role of supporting or junior artist until then.
In 2008, she signed up for a Tamil film “Kettavan,” but unfortunately, she dropped out of the project due to undisclosed reasons. However, Tamil actor Silambarasan saw her opposite Shahrukh Khan in an ad film and offered her the female lead role in the Tamil film Silambattam (2008). This project happened to be the debut of the actress in Kollywood. The Tamil audience appreciated the film, and the actress became popular in the Kollywood film industry. She then got her hands on multiple Tamil movies like Thambikku Indha Ooru, Payanam, Ayogya, Thalaivan, etc.
Her craze and fan-following in the Tamil film industry led her to make it big in the Telugu film industry. In 2010, she got her to break into the Tollywood industry with the movie “Kalyanram Kathi.”
